What you should know about loneliness?

Loneliness is a natural, normal human emotion. When you feel alone or when you feel unwanted or unloved, you’re going to feel lonely. But a sustained sense of loneliness is not normal, it means you need help. It is important to normalise feelings of loneliness and detect when the feelings become unhealthy and seek help.

What are the signs of being lonely?

Feeling lonely can plague many people — including the elderly, people who are isolated, and those with depression — with symptoms such as sadness, isolation, and withdrawal. Loneliness can strike a person who lives alone or someone who lives in a house filled with people.

How not to feel alone?

Get out of your house (this is a big one!).

    Loneliness, according to Wikipedia is “an unpleasant feeling in which a person feels a strong sense of emptiness and solitude resulting from inadequate social relationships.”. Of course, this doesn’t mean much, so I’ll try to explain it. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to be alone to feel lonely.

    Loneliness is feeling like you are meant to suffer alone; loneliness is suffering alone. Loneliness is unnatural; human beings are to be in relationship. Loneliness is fear; there is no freedom in it. Loneliness is anxiety; worry its sister, uncertainty, its friend.

    How to deal with loneliness?

    1) Acknowledge your feelings of loneliness. A first step to overcoming loneliness is realizing how you feel and the impact it’s having on your life. 2) Know when to engage or disengage from the online world when combating loneliness. 3) Find a volunteer opportunity as a way to feel less lonely. Volunteer opportunities are plentiful. 4) Join a group or club to overcome loneliness with in-person connections. 5) Practice self-care. Besides working to connect with others, don’t overlook the potential power of exercise, healthy food, proper sleep, sunshine, and even meditation for fighting loneliness.

    What are the types of loneliness?

    There are four major types of loneliness. The first one is loneliness as a personality trait. People who have this feel loneliness everywhere or at every stage. Second is stage loneliness, this happens when you feel lonely because of some very adverse external experience like loss of an important relationship.
