Quora’s first new product is Quora+ — subscribers will pay a $5 monthly fee or a $50 yearly fee to access content that any creator chooses to put behind a paywall. The other option is for creators to write paywalled posts on Spaces, which are like user-created publications on Quora.

Why is Quora plus a thing?

Quora Plus allows individuals to monetise their Spaces if they wish. This allows Quora to test the water of the subscription model. If there is a poor uptake of subscribers, paying for content is likely to remain optional.

Why does Quora not have an API?

All of Quora’s value is derived from the answers provided by its users, and they go to great lengths to make a well-designed platform for finding and replying to questions. But they do everything they can to make sure you can’t get those contributions back out. No public API.

Can people see what I read on Quora without my permission?

If you don’t like the idea of other people seeing what you are reading you have two options: 1) You can change your Quora account settings, by visiting Profile/Settings/Views and choosing “No”. (This is the option that Quora enabled without asking your permission) 2) Another option, of course, is to delete your account.

Should we be able to remove content from Quora’s archive?

If they open up an API where we can remove content from the archive when authors remove it from Quora, but leave the rest of the content archived, we would be happy to opt back in. The Internet Archive is a historical archive of the public internet, and Quora asking for the ability to selectively modify their archives is absurd.
