Well, you’re not alone. Parents spend an incredible 37 hours a week worrying about their children, according to new research. While it’s not surprising that parents are most concerned about their child’s overall well-being, they are specifically concerned about their child’s physical health (95 percent).

  • 30\% of respondents fear their child will be hurt in an accident.
  • 25\% of respondents fear someone will hurt or attack their child.
  • 23\% of respondents fear their children won’t feel safe in the world.
  • 14\% of respondents fear their kids will be kidnapped or abducted.

Do parents worry too much about their grown children?

Parents still lose sleep worrying about grown children. The results showed that for husbands, the support that they provided their grown children was associated with poorer sleep; conversely, the husbands slept more when their wives reported providing support for the kids. No such impact was seen on the women’s sleep.

Seidel says the results may be a side effect of how involved many parents are with their grown children’s lives these days. “Current research on young adults suggests that parents and children are maintaining high levels of involvement,” she said.
