Sleep researchers have found out that there is a strong correlation between dreaming and being in so-called REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. So there is a significant chance of you dreaming right now.

Do dreams tell us who we are?

Scientists and psychologists, old and new, tell us that dreams reveal critical aspects about ourselves. Dreams are a reflection of your recent state of mind, future possibilities, and changes that you have experienced.

Is everyone in your dreams real?

Are humans the only ones who dream?

But, since the 1950s, scientists have found some pretty convincing, though indirect, evidence that many other mammals and birds do indeed dream. Almost all mammals and birds that have been studied – from dogs and cats to duck-billed platypuses, and even reptiles – seem to go into this stage of Rapid Eye Movement sleep.

Dreams are thoughts. When you are dreaming, you are thinking, but on a much deeper and focused level than when you’re awake.

One of the strange things about dreams is that most of the time, we aren’t aware we’re dreaming. Typically, our memory and our reflective ability are substantially limited within dreams (Fosse et al. 2003; Hobson et al. 1998), causing us not to notice incongruencies within the dream and to take for granted that what we experience is real.

Do people who dream not realize they are dreaming?

People who dream do not realize they are dreaming, unless they experience a lucid dream, a hybrid state between sleeping and being awake. It is called lucid dreaming and it can be a somewhat awkward experience. Descartes suggested we cannot determine whether we dream or are awake.

Do we constantly live in our dreams?

This means that there is, in fact, an important sense in which all of us do constantly live within a dream—that is, within a world created by our own minds.
