A school may find your browsing history if you use a school computer, but it’s not as simple for them if you use your own device. However, they can still view the cache of websites that have been visited so far in this session.

Colleges have no way to access your search history during the application process. They don’t have any access to your computer, laptop, or phone and you aren’t using their wifi. They can’t access your search history nor do they want to. Colleges don’t care about what you search on your own time.

Google “school computer monitoring software” and you will see literally hundreds of products available to schools for this purpose.

Outside halls, I imagine this is no problem at all as the university has no access to your data use. When in hall and using a university connection, though, all usage is via your registered username and therefore, in theory, can be traced and watched and if necessary used against you.

The school can keep track on what you do on their website. When you log in, it could be logged, any site you visit on the school server can be associated with your account of course, since you logged in.

Being a school, monitoring might not be too sophisticated, but potentially, it could. If you are online via your internet provider at home, when you use your browser to log into a website, that website can monitor everything you do on it, but not more. Not another browser tab, not another browser altogether.
