What happens if you put the wrong routing number but correct account number?
If the routing number is valid in the Federal Reserve system, the receiving bank will reject it as the account number and name on the transaction are not valid on their system. That reject should be immediate. If the routing number is not valid, the paying bank will reject the transaction immediately.
When you order new checks does the routing number change?
Your routing number is printed on your checks. So if that number changes, you will need to order new checks. If your bank has been taken over by another financial institution, the new bank may send you replacement checks as a matter of course.
