The great thing about teaching is that it offers a lot of variety. Each school year, you get to teach new sets of students with varying characters, experiences, and ideas. As their teacher, you can incorporate new topics, upgrade your teaching style, and design new lessons to spruce and liven up the classroom.

It helps people become better citizens, get a better-paid job, shows the difference between good and bad. Education shows us the importance of hard work and, at the same time, helps us grow and develop. What do students learn from teachers?

Our students learn from what we do, not from what we claim to believe. When teachers treat students one-way and expect them to learn as if they are all identical, we lose them.

I let teachers know that it’s helpful to spend time at the beginning of the year telling students about themselves. To the level that they’re comfortable with, educators can let students know about their pets, family, and things they like to do outside of school.

As a student teacher I learned how important it is to relationships with students, taking the time to know who they are, what they stand for, and what they like, makes a world of a difference. Treating students like people and not like little kids helped create in them a sense of responsibility to meet expectations.
