How do I explain I am asexual?

Someone who is asexual doesn’t experience sexual attraction and/or doesn’t desire sexual contact. Asexuals may also use shorthand like “Ace” to describe their sexual orientation. An asexual person can be straight, gay, bisexual or queer because sexual attraction is only one kind of attraction.

Is it bad to be an asexual?

Asexuality is completely normal! It’s a healthy sexual orientation just like being gay or being straight, and you can still have normal relationships. What are the signs of being asexual?

Asexuality isn’t a condition to be diagnosed or a disorder with symptoms, there are no signs. A few trends, but nothing truly indicative of asexuality. The only thing we all have in common is a lack of sexual attraction/lack of desire for partnered sex.

What does it mean to be on the asexual spectrum?

The Asexual Visibility & Education Network defines an asexual person as “a person who does not experience sexual attraction .” What does the asexual spectrum look like? The asexual spectrum has three identities: sexual, asexual and a gray area in between that can be either gray-asexual or grey-sexuality. Demisexuality also falls in this gray area.

Is there a medical reason for asexuality?

As with homosexuality or bisexuality, there’s no underlying “cause” of asexuality. It’s just the way someone is. Asexuality isn’t genetic, the result of trauma, or caused by anything else. It’s often assumed that asexual people will feel sexual attraction when they meet the “right” person – this is untrue.

Can You Be Straight and asexual?

Yes and no. This is like the fifth time we’ve addressed this. You can’t be straight (heterosexual) and asexual – the two are inherently incompatible as asexuality is the lack of sexual attraction. But you can be heteroromantic and asexual, and if you want to call yourself a straight asexual, you can, though that does result in confusion usually.
