You can sit at home and wait for orders as long as thats the area you are signed up to dash in, realize you may or may not receive orders if you are not near areas where theirs restaurants. You can work in any area that’s currently in need of Dashers (not grayed out on the map in the app).

How does Doordash determine how busy an area is?

The heatmap on the homescreen of the Dasher App is updated in real time and will tell you when and where it’s busy. When the heatmap is red or when it says that it is “very busy” or “busy”, you can Dash Now or navigate to the “busy” areas to Dash and take advantage of high customer demand.

You will generally see Hotspots near areas with many restaurants. To increase your chances to receive more orders, simply position yourself closer to a Hotspot.
