1. Your brain sorts and processes the day’s information. Don’t be fooled into thinking that when you’re asleep your brain has shut off too. Your brain is actually quite busy while you sleep, sorting and storing information from the day.

Where does our mind go when we sleep?

REM sleep tends to combine increased energy provision to the brain and body, and so, this is generally when dreams occur. As the name suggests, during REM, your eyes move rapidly from side to side behind closed eyelids and brain wave activity becomes closer to that seen in wakefulness.

you cannot think while your at sleep. you just think you do. Your mind will be bugging you while you are trying to sleep. But eventually you will fall asleep and you will stop being conscious until you wake up. If you have to much thoughts, you will need to learn how to control your thoughts.

Yes they do, the brain is active while asleep, and very active during dreams… but I suspect what you are asking is more in line with lucid dreaming, and conscious awareness of the dream state, and thinking and influencing thoughts during your dreams.

Is sleep all one state of mind?

So sleep is not all one state… some sleep states like light sleep, you are more consciously aware and able to think than others. But there is very little doubt there is a lot of thinking going on when you sleep. We do it all the time. The only time our brain waves go to zero is if we are brain dead.
