How often do Marines get leave?

You receive 30 days of leave time every year. You have to run a leave request form indicating what you’re going to be during your vacation up the chain of command. If it is approved, you’re good to go on vacation when you planned.

You travel as often as the Navy requires. Some jobs (ratings) hardly ever travel, others travel almost incessantly. It is often said, you “choose your rate, choose your fate”. For example, a BM (bosun’s mate) is very often at sea while a LM (legalman) will travel far less.

Once all the quals are complete its time for the big cruise…usually 6 months, sometimes longer depending on the mission or what is going on in the world. There is usually a stand-down period once the cruise is over but it varies depending on the needs of the Navy.
