Can you lose serana as a follower?

After you talk to Gelebor, Serana will start following again but you’ll retain the services of whoever you traveled away to get. If you dismiss Serana after the Dawnguard quest line is over, you may run into a bug where you can never have her as a follower again in the same play through.

Can you have serana as a follower if you are a werewolf?

Yes, you get Serana as a follower either way. If you side with the Dawnguard she will come to Fort Dawnguard while you are away and tell you of the prophecy.

Is serana better than AELA?

Serana would win, because she generally has better stats and tools at her disposal. Plus she has the advantage of being the most fleshed out character in the game in my opinion.
