Q&A

Can you connect different Ah batteries together?

Can you connect different Ah batteries together?

You cannot connect batteries of different amp-hours in series with good results. We strongly recommend you DO NOT attempt to mix battery sizes (amp-hours) and connect together. This will cause the highest voltage battery to charge the lowest voltage battery attempting to create balance in the circuit.

Can we connect different Ah batteries in parallel?

No, you can’t connect batteries of different Ah in series with a good result. However you can connect batteries of different Ah in parallel using diodes. As stated already you should only connect batteries of same type/age/brand in series. In parallel you should use diodes to connect the batteries to the UPS.

Can I connect 2 batteries to my UPS?

If UPS specification permits the two batteries can be charged with UPS or if the current rating of UPS does not permit, the batteries can be charged one by one with UPS. After charging of additional battery the same can be connected in parallel with other battery.

Can I mix different capacity batteries?

It is important to use the same battery type with equal voltage and capacity (Ah) and never to mix different makes and sizes. A weaker cell would cause an imbalance.

Can I use a battery that has a larger Ah rating than my previous battery?

For city driving it’s good to have a bigger capacity battery. The extra amp/hr capacity will act as reserve. Most of the new battery are dry charge ( 100\% Charge) once installed it can be used instantly. There is no side effect at all , even yr alternator will not be subjected to working overtime.

Can you connect 2 12v batteries in series?

Two or more 12-volt batteries wired in parallel—positive to positive, negative to negative—is still a 12-volt system. Two or more 12-volt batteries wired in series—the positive terminal of one battery connected to the negative terminal of a second battery—develops 24 volts, but amperage doesn’t change.

What happens if I use the wrong group size battery?

If your battery is too large, it won’t even fit in your car’s battery compartment because of the difference in size, terminals, and possibly mounting configurations. If you could get it to fit and your hood or battery strap can close properly, nothing bad will happen to your car.

Can you replace a 12V battery with a 9AH battery?

In our example, a 12V 7.2Ah can be replaced by a 12V 9Ah for longer run time, but the battery must be 12V. How long do SLA batteries typically last?
