UPSC only expects candidates to have a generalist understanding of a wide range of topics. So if you have the material with you and can study on your own, you will be able to understand the subject and hence GS coaching isn’t really necessary.
Can I crack IAS in 1 year without coaching?
Yes, 1 year is sufficient for IAS preparation without coaching. If you do focus study then you can clear this exam in your first attempt. Preparing for UPSC itself is a full time job ,during preparation you need to work hard daily at least 6-8 hours. Prelims will test your concepts + facts , mains is more analytical .
