Q&A

Why does light not have a shadow?

Why does light not have a shadow?

No light cannot have a shadow. Light is a stream of particles called photons which are small packets of energy (quanta) and energy cannot cast a shadow. Light also behaves as a wave which is a disturbance in a medium the disturbed medium may cast the shadow but not the disturbance.

Do photons cast shadows?

No. The casting of shadows is caused by the absorption and/or reflection of light. Generally light does not absorb or reflect itself. Photon photon scattering is possible and has been detected under extreme conditions at CERN, but it is not a manifest phenomenon in everyday conditions.

What if photons light had mass?

The speed of light is special: nothing with mass can move at that speed, or accelerate to it. If photons have mass, then obviously the “speed of light” becomes a misnomer. Massless particles would still travel at that speed — if any particles end up being massless after the carnage is done.

Can light Make a shadow?

Can a light source have a shadow? Light sources cannot cast shadows since they all emit light waves that move away from them.

Does a photon see time?

Photons do not experience time. From the perspective of a photon, there is no such thing as time. It’s emitted, and might exist for hundreds of trillions of years, but for the photon, there’s zero time elapsed between when it’s emitted and when it’s absorbed again.

Why does light create shadows?

Shadows are produced when light hits an opaque object which prevents the light beams from passing through. When an object blocks the light’s path, then darkness appears on the other side. This darkness is called a shadow.

Why does a photon have no mass?

The whole concept of a photon has no mass is bullshit if you accept E=MC squared. If M=0, the photon has no energy. Also, according to relativity, it takes infinite energy for any object with mass to travel at the speed of light.

Which light cannot have a shadow?

No light cannot have a shadow. Light is a stream of particles called photons which are small packets of energy (quanta) and energy cannot cast a shadow. Light also behaves as a wave which is a disturbance in a medium the disturbed medium may cast the shadow but not the disturbance.

What happens to mass as it approaches the speed of light?

If you accept E=MC2 then as a particle matter approaches the speed of light it is converted into energy the original mass being spread out infinitely as it is converted into energy. The reverse should also be true where as energy slows down by whatever mechanism the energy would revert to matter.

Where do photons get their energy from?

Since photons (particles of light) have no mass, they must obey E= pcand therefore get all of their energy from their momentum. Now there is an interesting additional effect contained in the general equation.
