“The Way of Kings” is great fun. If you haven’t read much Sanderson, his magic systems are really well thought out and he’s great at planning his stories several books out to tie things from very early on in later. It’s epic, and has lots of great characters.

Is the eye of the world worth reading?

Let us preface by saying that there are 56 chapters in this book, which is more than A Feast of Crows’ 43 chapters, but less than A Game of Thrones’ 73 chapters. But all in all, The Eye of the World is comparable in length to both novels. So, if you love lengthy, epic fantasies then this series is a must-read!

Should I read The Way of Kings or mistborn first?

Both book series are great and I really like them both. Love them even. However, if you’ve never read Sanderson, I’d suggest reading Mistborn first. The main advantage of starting with Mistborn over Way of Kings is that the Mistborn mainline story is complete.

Because it is an homage to that great icon of epic fantasy, The Lord of the Rings, without being a ripoff of it. Because it has female characters who are as richly realized and as central to the plot as the male characters.

It’s a pretty slow burn. I’m of the opinion that it’s a little too long, Kaladin’s story in particular has a lot of chapters that don’t move the story much at all. Overall I still liked it though, it took me until about halfway through until I really felt much investment. I got about as far as you did.
